Hi, guys! My name is Jamiria Graves and I am the new intern at Aiken Blend. I am a Senior at the University of South Carolina-Aiken, where I study History with a cognate in Communications. I graduate this upcoming Fall of 2019. I am originally from Hilton-Head, South Carolina. I chose to study here in Aiken because I fell in love with the small town charm.
I am a member of the History Club at USC-A. While being a part of the History club, I learned how to conduct oral history interviews, writing as a historian, and gathering research.
I am super excited to be interning with Aiken Blend during a time period where I get to assist with the success of the annual Aiken City Limits Music Festival. I have learned that the Festival is a collaboration with many organizations to #connectAiken through arts and music – with events happening all over Aiken October 17-20.
I am also splitting my time interning with Material Things, an interior design business in Aiken. While interning at Material Things, I have the opportunity to help with the Indie Arts/Vintage Market that Material Things puts on once a month. During the Aiken City Limits Music Festival, this market will transform into a once a year Field of Dreams Entrepreneur Village at Highfields Event Center to celebrate the entrepreneurial spirit in Aiken! We are still have room for vendors and would love to have some college-aged artisans, artists, and vintage businesses join us- especially if you are ready to take your business to the next level after graduation!
I am excited to get involved with local organizations and to learn about all of the activities Aiken has to offer someone my age. I really want to be able to share about these with my follow students at the University of South Carolina-Aiken and to connect with the community. I feel sure this will help me make my future plans for after graduation so I’m thankful for the opportunity!
I hope to meet you around town while I dive into these activites head first!
