Have a hankering for bratwurst and beer? Lucky for you, there will be plenty of it this Saturday at Oktoberfest.
Aiken Downtown Development Association is partnering with USCA to host the 6th annual Oktoberfest on Saturday, September 29th from 6-10:30PM.
The celebration includes beer and wine, Bavarian-style foods, traditional German games, authentic Bavarian music, and dancing!
Men coming to celebrate are encouraged to wear lederhosen, women are welcome to wear a dirndl. (Come on people, go all out for this crazy fun event!)
Oktoberfest first began in 1810 when Prince Ludwig of Bavaria married Princess Therese of Saxony-Hildburghausen on the 12th day of October. The couple invited the citizens of Munich to celebrate their marriage in front of the city gates.
The ending of the event was marked by horse races in the presence of the Royal Family. The decision to repeat the horse races the following year is what helped lock in the tradition of Oktoberfest.
Are you a football fan who doesn’t want to miss watching your team? There is no excuse to skip this celebration! The games will be projected onto a big screen for all to watch.
There will be both traditional and non-traditional options available from food vendors coming to Oktoberfest. Palmetto Pork House, Stuffed Puppies, Aramark, The Haute Dog Lady, Baja Tacos, Mellow Mushroom, and Pelicans Snoballs will all be there. YUM!
Onto the important part of Oktoberfest- BEER!
I’m just kidding. But for those interested in beverages, they will definitely be available. A variety of craft and German beer will be served such as Samuel Adams Oktoberfest. Wine and non-alcoholic beverages will also be available.
Oktoberfest-themed beer will be available for purchase for $5 a token. These tokens can be purchased on Saturday at the event.
Helpful tip: if you do not want to wait in line to purchase your tokens on Saturday night, get ahead of the game and purchase them from the ADDA office today!
If you want to get a good workout in before you eat and drink to your heart’s content, the Oktoberfest Run for the Roses 5k will be held downtown on Friday night at 6:00PM. Proceeds from this race will go to the Children’s Hospital of Georgia and the Arthritis Foundation.
Since the original Oktoberfest included horses, of course our little horse town has to include them as well! Stable View will host the 5th Annual Advanced Oktoberfest Horse Trials. Before you get to the downtown celebrations, go watch eventers from around the country compete for a prize of $65,000. The facility will also hold a car show and tailgate.
Now, go find yourself a dirndl of lederhosen to wear on Saturday! Auf Wiedersehen!
