Todd Lista local photographer and visionary with a family legacy of chronicling Aiken. Always looking for the next big thing; Lista has embraced the 3D printing wave and has opened Cafe Scientifique Aiken in the basement of the Old Post Office Building.
Cafe Scientifique hosts meetings of like minded thinkers to discuss STEM (Science Technology Enginering Math) education, ecological issues and nuclear technologies. For the tech savvy, these Cafe gatherings offer a best practices and App sharing forum. Approaching science dialog in a casual environment makes covering these complex topics easier on the body.
Science Cafes are popping up around the globe and with all of the engineers and scientists in Aiken what better to have than a place to gather and have fun with numbers. A featured event will be “Nerd Nights” models after the national NOVA movement where topics are covered and feedback is sought. As the Cafe grows from a discussion forum into a retail food and beverage capable facility, tech topics and science talk will flow from the Old Post Office.
Lista stumbled into this idea through his photography business. After photographing new members of the various groups at SRS, he heard about the NPR radio show about Science Cafes and began putting together speaker and issues lists. The goal is to have topics and speakers from across the science spectrum.
